Thank you Ruth! I accept spent the last two days acouring the internet to find each of these solutions. I ahould have stopped here and asked first because this is the near coherent well laid out answer that anyone has provided! Cheers.

Unfortunately, none of these solutions take worked for me and I take done them on both computers in question. I take granted total admission and permissions to the single user equally well every bit full access to everone on the network. Neither worked. I disabled the firewalls to no avail. I have updated the network settings on both computers as stated in bout last step. None of this helped.

I too saw online that maybe the encryption was an issueso I switched that just it didnt assist either.

The weird matter is I was able to set the drive up and access it fine for about a week so all all of a sudden the w10 figurer can no longer connect to the file. I cant find where any of the sertings inverse betwixt those two conditions.

I tried the suggested fix and I also did not go anywhere, specifically considering I had no "Owner" Tab. SOOOOO I played around and got information technology working by doing the following:

1. Right-click the Public folder and select Properties.

ii. Click the Sharing tab in Public Backdrop. This will open the File Sharing window for the Public folder.

3. Using the pull down menu (where it says "Blazon a name and click add together, or click the arrow to find someone" , select Anybody.

four. Click Add

5. Select the appropriate permission level (I chose Read/Write).

6. Click Share.

After a few minutes, It may ask if y'all want to do the aforementioned with other public folders like music and videos. I chose yes, but you tin cull whatever you want. After that it worked for me.

The problem here is that there may be an issue when you get to the finish of step 2:

When you attempt to map to the folder on the windows x machine y'all demand to select use other credentials, when prompted for your credentials, if you practise non get prompted for credentials and fail to connect then you need to recreate the drive / folder mapping, equally by default, windows volition attempt to use your account from the local automobile, which will always fail to connect unless it is configured exactly the same with aforementioned username and countersign on both machines, or unless password protected sharing is disabled, or If The built-in usergroup: Everyone has non been granted full control on the binder in question.

If any of the above conditions have not been met, and you still cannot or unable to sucessfully connect,

you need to specify, when prompted for your credentials, the useraccount name and password on the remote machine to which you are trying to connect. Ie: remotemachinename/David password.

Failing this, you lot may need to look at resolving wins/dns problems on your network or remote machine that yous desire to connect to.
