How To Remove Bird Poop Stain From Clear Coat

Cut flowers are easy on the eye but can be tough on fabrics if they shed pollen on them, with lilies among the worst offenders.

With the right know-how up your sleeve, though. you can shift even the most stubborn pollen stains. Just follow the GHI's essential action plan...

Stick it to pollen stains!

The worst thing you can do is push powdery pollen deeper into the pile or weave of fabrics. Use sticky tape wrapped around your fingers to lift as much pollen as you can from the affected area by patting gently.

Alternatively, use your vacuum cleaner's crevice nozzle to gather up the pollen. Whatever you do, don't rub in or wet the pollen.

GHI TIP: You can use the sticky tape method to remove other powdery, delicate things such as spider webs and crumbs. It's also good for lifting pet hairs from fabrics.

Treat stains on washable fabrics

Treat fabrics quickly to bust stains...

  • For washable cotton or wool fabrics, either hand wash or machine wash at as high a temperature as the item's care instructions allow.
  • For washable silk fabrics, spot-treat any remaining traces of the stain with Dr. Beckmann's Stain Devils Nature and Cosmetics, according to the manufacturer's instructions. Follow by machine-washing at 30°C on the delicates cycle or hand washing.

    Spot-treat stains on carpets

Pollen stains can easily be transferred to carpets from your shoes or your pets. To prevent this, leave your shoes at the door as soon as you come in. To combat pollen that hides in pet hair, brush your pet every time it comes inside.

Treat any remaining traces of pollen stains from carpets with Dr Beckmann Carpet Stain Remover, following the instructions.

    Prevention is better than cure!

To avoid getting pollen on clothes, carpets or soft furnishings, remove the pollen-laden stamen of cut flowers such as lilies before you arrange them in a vase.

The National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies advises holding each flower in turn over the sink and pinching out or snipping off the stamen using fine, sharp scissors. Ideally, do this before the pollen reaches its powdery, stain-producing peak!
